The Times Tables Premier League
Why are we putting time into our pupils knowing their times tables?
Times tables are like learning to read without sounding out every word.
When children know their tables, they don’t have to stop and think about basic sums. That means they can focus on the actual problem, not the calculation.
It makes harder maths easier.
At 5th & 6th class level, maths gets more complicated — fractions, percentages, algebra, area and volume. All of those mathematical areas use multiplication. If your child doesn’t know their tables, maths quickly becomes slow, tiring, and frustrating, even if they understand the ideas.
Therefore, we want to try and help them learn their times tables in a fun motivational way.
Each week the pupils will work on a specific times table. They will spend 10-15 minutes at the beginning of their maths lesson practising their times tables in their groups which is made up of pupils from 5th & 6th class.
Links/QR codes will be shared each week on this page for practising at home with one activity per night and the aim is to beat their score.
Every Friday the children will have a competition to motivate them to practise and the winner will get a prize of their choice.
