Green Schools
Subject: Green-Schools Action Week – January 28th to February 5th
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are pleased to announce that our school will be celebrating Green-Schools Action Week from today, Wednesday, January 28th, through till next Thursday, February 5th. This initiative, launched yesterday by our student-led Green-Schools Committee, aims to foster environmental stewardship and highlight how small, daily habits can lead to significant positive change.
This year, our focus is on Water and Energy Conservation. Throughout the week, pupils will engage in a variety of educational and practical activities, including nature walks, waste audits, and a "No-Screen Thursday."
How You Can Support Us
We would greatly appreciate your cooperation in reinforcing these values at home through the following actions:
- Sustainable Travel: If possible, please encourage your child to walk or cycle to school during the week to help reduce our local carbon footprint.
- Waste-Free Lunches: We aim to minimize single-use plastics. You can find tips for the waste-free lunches on the green schools website such as using reusable containers and bottles. Especially for the next two Thursdays.
- Bottle Collection: We are currently collecting plastic bottles. Any donations brought in over the next week would be very welcome.
- Conservation Conversations: Discuss simple habits at home. greenschoolsireland.org
Art Competition: ‘How can we save energy/water at home?’
We are inviting all students to enter our themed art competition. Pupils may submit an A4 poster or a creative slogan that encourages mindfulness regarding resource use.
- Deadline: Please ensure all entries are submitted by Thursday, February 5th.
Green Celebration Day
To conclude the week, we will hold a Green Celebration Day on Thursday, February 5th. We invite all children to wear orange or blue clothing to school on this day as we celebrate their hard work and dedication to protecting our environment.
Thank you for your continued support of our Green-Schools initiatives.
Kind regards,
The Green-Schools Committee
